Although the average NxStage home patient differs somewhat from the average U.S. dialysis patient, few if any characteristics limit those who may experience the potential benefits of the therapy. NxStage home hemodialysis patients are more likely to be male, which is consistent with other published data on home hemodialysis. NxStage patients span an age range from 9 to 92 years old1, with an average age of 52. This is slightly younger than average ages of the overall dialysis and peritoneal dialysis population, respectively, according to the 2007 USRDS Annual Data Report. ![]() Patients receiving NxStage therapy range from 27 kilograms (59 pounds) to 187 kilograms (411 pounds), with an average of 84 kilograms (185 pounds). This is larger than the average U.S. incident dialysis patient according to the 2007 USRDS Annual Data Report. Clinicians achieve targeted dose by adjusting fluid volume. ![]() Most patients are prescribed dialysate volumes per session of 20 to 25 liters, with an approximate treatment time of 2.5 hours. 83% of patients are prescribed dialysis of 6 to 7 sessions per week, and the balance are prescribed 4 to 5 sessions per week. ![]() Most NxStage home patients have AV fistulas, consistent with objectives of Fistula First.
