Please note that the experiences and results reported by these patients will not necessarily be experienced by another patient. All patients differ and their experiences and results will vary. Patients on NxStage typically perform treatments 5 to 6 days per week at 2½ to 3 hours per treatment. Daily home hemodialysis patients experience many of the same risks associated with three-times-weekly in-center hemodialysis. In addition, there are certain risks unique to the home environment. Treatments at home are done without the presence of medical personnel and on-site technical support. Patients and their partners must be trained on what to do and how to get medical or technical help if needed. Talk to your doctor to understand the risks and responsibilities associated with home and/or daily hemodialysis and to see if daily home hemodialysis with NxStage is right for you.

Being tied to the clinic’s schedule limited his ability to perform, and he feared he wouldn’t be able to continue his passion for music. Schelorrey and Horace have much more in common than their love for each other: they both face the challenges of kidney failure and they both perform daily home hemodialysis using the NxStage System One. Horace likes the flexibility of doing the treatment on his schedule, saying "I can go to work, do my eight hours, then come home and do my treatment." When Jim switched from 3x-weekly in-center dialysis to daily home hemodialysis, the physical and mental health improvements were dramatic. Colin used to go straight home and to bed after conventional thrice-weekly dialysis treatments.
